BCB has different mechanism with
potential and young players

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has a different mechanism with the potential and young players those who are now under their radar.

And for that reason, they did not go to any experiment in the ensuing Test against Afghanistan despite having a good chance.

BCB selector Habibul Bashar Sumon made the disclosure to The Independent at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

Sumon said that they want to bring them in a time when they can play many more games at a stretch and prove their potential and worth so that they can't drop out of the national fold.

For this, he said they did not go to any experiment in the Afghanistan Test because they sought that their best possible squad play the Test against visiting Afghan side.

Despite having some potential players under their radar, Sumon said that they did not bring any of them for this lone Test.

"It's not about Afghan. It would be the same approach of forming our best squad if  it would be different opposition teams,” said Habibul Bashar Sumon. “When we sat for the team discussion, we had target how to form a best possible team because Test match is Test match. We always give top priority to Test match. I could have tried by new one we had that opportunity in our hand. But we did not go into any experiment in Test match because we think our main squad in Test should always play what we have done,” Sumon told this reporter. “There was a little bit of injury concern among the players. Mustafiz had a bit injury problem so we didn't pick him for that. Moreover, the bulk of the players were in good stead for which forming the squad is not difficult for us,” he added.

The former national captain touted Test as different ball game, saying that they have tried to play it by their most experienced players.

“Test match is a different ball game. We want to march forward with our best possible team and the most experienced team what we could have tried. We have two World Cups including T20 World Cup ahead,” he said.

“In Twenty20 format, we are yet to experience than other formats of games. So we'll have opportunity for conducting experiment. We've got a chance where we might be tried by new players. You'll get to see it when we'll give squad for Twenty20,” he added.

Citing Saif Hassan, Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Afif Hossain as future prospect, the selector said that they want to bring them in such time while they could play more games  at time so that they have proved themselves and not to look back any more.

“There will have a thinking of us always. We are hopeful that some of the players who are considered as our future prospect are playing better cricket. Saif Hassan, Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Afif Hossain who are playing better," he said.

"Actually some of our players are really batting well that are good for our cricket. We are now thinking that they will do something better for the Bangladesh team. It's a good side for us. They were in our mind while we form the team for the Afghanistan team,” he also said.

“We want to bring them in a time when they will come we can give them longer time, even they could stay longer time. Despite having done much impact in one more matches, they could play more times. We can give them at least six to seven matches to stretch their stay in the national team,” he added.
