Two killed, 8 hurt in road accidents

Two persons, including a woman, were killed and eight others injured in separate road accidents on Mymensingh-Sherpur road in Mymensingh on Friday night and Saturday.

One of the victims was identified as Hajera Khatun, 55, wife of Abul Hashim of Palashkanda village in Tarakanda upazila of Mymensingh. However the identity of the CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver, aged about 30, could not be known yet.

Quoting local people, officer-in-charge of Tarakanda Police Station Md Mizanur Rahman said Hajera sustained serious injuries when a Mymensingh bound motor-bike crashed her while crossing the road in Gopalpur area in Tarakanda around 1pm yesterday. The motorbike riders also sustained critical injuries.

They were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) from where Hajera was referred to Dhaka but she died on the way around 2pm, said the OC.

In another accident at Alalpur in Mymensingh sadar upazila last night, an unidentified CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver was killed and six passengers of the auto-rickshaw were injured when the CNG-run-auto-rickshaw collided head on with a Mymensingh bound truck around 9pm Friday night Police seized the truck but its driver managed to flee.
