A 25-day long drama festival was kicked off here on Thursday evening marking the centennial celebration of Dinajpur Natya Samiti.
Ramendra Majumder, an eminent cultural personality of Bangladesh, inaugurated the festival by lighting candle at Dinajpur Natya Samiti auditorium on Thursday evening.
Foreign Affair Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali MP was present as chief guest.
Mirza Anwarul Islam Tanu President of Dinajpur Natya Samiti chaired a discussion meeting. Ruhul Amin Police Super of Dinajpur, Toufiq Imam Additional Deputy Commissio-ner and Kazi Borhan a drama personality of Dinajpur were present and spoke at the inauguration season as special guest. Although the organisation reached its 100th anniversary in 2013, could not celebrate the historic occasion due to political chaos. In November 2014, the organiser arranged to celebrate the occasion, but suspend it for non-stop blockade hartal, said Mirza Anwarul Islam Tanu, the president of Dinajpur Natya Samiti.
Foreign Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud said the AL government is trying to uphold the glory and preserve such institutions in the country for the coming generation in the country.
After the inauguration, ‘Jamineer Shesh Sanglap’, a play, was staged by Dinajpur Natya Samiti. In the festival, 19 teams, including 4 from west Bengal of India are participating.
The four Indian theatre groups are Bichitra Natya Sangtha, Kaliaganj, Oroni Natya Sangtha, Buniadpur of Dakkhin Dinajpur, Prekkhapat of Kolkata and Hazabarala of Kolkata.
