5-tier security at Baitul Mukarram, Nat’l Eidgah

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken strong security measures in the capital ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, which will be celebrated across the country tomorrow. “The National Eidgah is completely ready for the Eid prayers. Five-tier of security measures have been taken at the National Eidgah and Baitul Mukarram National Mosque,” said the DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia.

He said this after taking a look at the Eid preparations at the National Eid prayer ground. The DMP boss told reporters that security measures have been beefed up considering all types of security risks and apprehensions during the festival. The commissioner said that the entire area will be covered by CCTV cameras. Besides, there will be police, Detective Branch police, SWAT, CTTC, Bomb Disposal Unit as well as watch-towers and archway systems.

Similar measures will be applicable in other venues where Eid jamaat (congregation) will be held in the capital. He asked the devotees not to carry any inflammable substances, knife or matches. Everyone will have to undergo three-tier screening before entering the venue, he said, adding that similar security arrangement is in place for National Mosque.

He also said that citizens would be allowed to bring only their prayer mats and umbrellas to the prayer ground. He requested them to cooperate with law enforcement officials during the search before coming to the prayer ground.

DMP Commissioner also said there will be barricades in

some areas, including Abdul Gani Road, Doyle Chattar and Motsoy Bhaban. Devotees will have to walk to go to Eidgah as no vehicle will be allowed to go pass the barricade until and unless you are a VVIP, he added.
