Pourashabas gripped with election fever

Electioneering has gained momentum in the eight pourashabas of Jessore district. The Pourasavas are Jessore, Jhikorgacha, Chowgacha, Benapole, Monirampur, Keshabpur, Abhoynagar and Bagerpara, where election will be held in December this year.
Sources said candidates from ruling Awami League (AL) and several other parities will participate in the election.  But the activities at BNP and Jamaat camps are not still visible. The probable candidates in Jessore pourashava are ex-mayor SM Kamruzzaman Chunnu, who was also the former vice-president of district AL, district Juba League general secretary Zahirul Islam Rantu and Nagar BNP president existing mayor Maruful Islam Maruf. In Jhikorgacha pourashava, the possible candidates are existing mayor AL leader Mostafa Anwar Pasha Jamal, AL leader Ramjan Sharif Badsha and Elias Mahmud and from BNP Royal Siddique and Imran Hassan Nipun. In Benapole pourashava, the likely candidates are present mayor Juba League leader Ashraful Alam Liton, Sarsha upazila Awami League general secretary Nuruzzaman and poura AL general secretary Nasiruddin and from BNP Nazimuddin. In Chowgacha pourashava, present mayor and BNP leader Selim Reza Awaiar, Shorab Hossain (BNP) and Abdul Halim Chanchal, from AL SM Saifur Rahman Babul, Nur uddin Al Mamun and Towhidur Rahman might contest the polls. In Bagerpara pourashava, present
mayor BNP leader Abdul Hye Mona, upazila BNP general secretary Abu Taher Siddiqui and AL leaders Kamruzzaman Bachu and Solaiman Hossain, Abdur Rouf are the likely candidates.
In Abhoynagar pourashava, present mayor BNP leader Rabiul Hossain Roby and AL leaders Sarder Waliar Rahman and Farook Hossain might contest the polls.
In Monirampur pourashava, present
mayor BNP upazila president Advocate Shahid Iqbal, upazila AL general secretary Golam Mostafa and his son Faruk Hossain, Gagi Majid, Master Mohiul Islam from Jamaat are likely candidates.
In Keshabpur pourashava, the possible candidates are present mayor BNP leader Abdus Samad Biswas and AL leader Hassan Sadek.
