Mohun Bagan, one of the India soccer giants confirmed to play in the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup football tournament to be held in the third week of October. The chairman of the football committee of the Chittagong Abahani Limited Tarafdar Ruhul Amin had a meeting with the high ups of the Mohun Bagan Athletic Club yesterday in Kolkata when they handed over their confirmation letter to Tarafdar.
Tarafdar informed from Kolkata that they will have a meeting with East Bengal, another traditional giants of Indian football today to discuss with them for their consent. East Bengal took part in the first edition of the tournament managed to clinched the runners-up trophy when they conceded a 3-1 defeat to host Chittagong Abahani in the final and if Mohun Bagan will play it would be first time they would participate in the tournament. Organised by the Chittagong Abahani Limited, it will be third edition of the tournament when the host won the inaugural edition tournament.
Meanwhile, the first edition of the tournament, after the name of Sheikh Kamal the founder of the Abahani Limited (Dhaka) was held in 2015 with the participation of top three teams of Bangladesh and five teams from abroad have been taking part since 2015. Tarafdar said that this time also they will try to involve five foreign teams, if fail to convince any team from abroad then the tournament will be organised with four clubs from Bangladesh and as many foreign teams.
Though the organisers could not keep the continuity of staging the tournament after the first edition in 2015, the second was held in 2017 this time they will organise it with more gorgeously. This time the champions team will receive $5,0,000 and the runners- up team will get $30,000.
