Police arrested an employee of ‘Ghoroa Hotel and Restaurant’ from the ccapital’s Motijheel area yesterday over the killing of co-worker Riyad, reports UNB. The arrestee was identified as Jasim alias Grill Jasim. Riyad was shot to death allegedly by his owner Ariful Islam Sohel at Swamibagh in the capital early Wednesday. Victim’s elder brother Ripon Hossain filed a case with Wari Police Station accusing three people, including restaurant owner Sohel, on Wednesday, said Inspector of the police station Md Alim Hossain Sikder. Alim said a team of police arrested Grill Jasim from Motijheel. However, Sohel has been on the run since the incident, he said. Police were also interrogating several employees of the restaurant to unearth the mystery behind the killing, said the police officer. Quoting fellow workers of the deceased, sub-inspector of Wari Police Station Abdul Khaleq said some workers of the hotel reside in an apartment owned by Ariful Islam Sohel, proprietor of the restaurant, at Swamibagh. They locked in an altercation around 1am on Wednesday over the theft of a mobile phone set which led to a scuffle. Restaurant owner Sohel reportedly went there at that time. At one stage, he opened fire on Riyad, leaving him injured. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 1:45am. After the incident, police detained hotel manager Shafique for interrogation.
