Minni ‘admits’ involvement

Aysha Siddika Minni reportedly admitted yesterday to being involved in the murder of her husband Rifat Sharif. Minni gave a confessional statement before Barguna's Senior Judicial Magistrate in the evening, claimed Inspector Humayun Kabir, the case's investigation officer.

Meanwhile, Rishan Farazi, the third key suspect in the murder of Rifat Sharif was placed on a 5-day remand by the same court. Judge Md Sirajul Islam Gazi passed the order yesterday after police produced Rishan before the court and sought a 7-day remand, said police.

Earlier, Barguna Superintendent of Police Md Maruf Hossain announced the arrest of Rishan in a media briefing on Thursday.

Rishan is the brother of Rifat Farazi, the second key suspect in the case who is currently in custody. The two brothers were the main associate Nayan Bond, the prime suspect in the case, who was killed in a shootout with law enforcers.

So far, 13 accused have admitted to being involved in the killing.

Minni's confessional came during her five-day remand. Her father Mozammel Hossain said his daughter was forced to give it and alleged that a group is trying to divert the case.

Rifat Sharif, 22, was attacked with sharp weapons near the main gate of Barguna Government College on June 26. His wife Minni appeared to be trying to protect him during the attack that was caught on surveillance camera.

Police arrested 16 people in this connection. But main accused Nayan Bond was killed in a reported gunfight with law enforcers on July 2.
