Today is the 114th birth anniversary of ‘Banglar Bulbul’ famed late noted singer Abbas Uddin Ahmed (27 October 1901–30 December 1959). Born on this day in the Bengal province of British India, he was one of the most prominent Bengali folk song composers and singers in the subcontinent. He was mainly known for Bhawaiya folk song, which is a style commonly found in Rangpur and Cooch Behar, India. On the occasion of his birth anniversary today, Abbas Uddin’s daughter celebrated singer Ferdousi Rahman and granddaughter Nashid Kamal will be seen participating in a TV programme today. Styled ‘Batabrikkher Chhaya’, the programme features Baithaki Gaan (where the village folk gather for a chat and some entertainment), reminiscing old memories and reports on the life and works of Abbas Uddin, besides the performance of Ferdousi Rahman and Nashid Kamal. Moreover, the programme will also include rendition of songs by Mustafizur Rahman, Salma Mustafiz, Sahos Mustafiz and group rendition. Besides rendering songs in the programme, Nashid Kamal will also be seen anchoring the show. ‘Batabrikkher Chhaya’ will be aired today at 3:10pm on ATN Bangla.
