Bangladesh batting consultant Neil McKenzie will not travel with the Tigers in Sri Lanka in their upcoming bilateral away series. The South African coach has taken leave from the three-match ODI series after the conclusion of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup following their back-to-back protracted tour in Ireland and England.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director and its media committee chairman Jalal Younus made the revelation to media at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
“It was earlier informed from the BCB that we will not renew the contract with Courtney Walsh, Thihan Chandramohan and Ryan Cook. Then the board parted ways with Steve Rhodes,” said Jalal Younus.
“But the board is in favour of Neil McKenzie. But he will not tour to Sri Lanka with the team as he took leave during the World Cup,” Jalal told at his BCB office while holding a talk session with media people yesterday.
That’s meant that no previous coaching staff will be seen in Sri Lanka with the Tigers in the imminent short series. The BCB earlier informed that they will not renew contract with fast-bowling coach Courtney Walsh, fielding coach Ryan Cook and Physio Thihan Chandramohan after the England Cricket World Cup.
They cut ties with head coach Steve Rhodes on July 9 on mutual agreement that they termed as mutual separation.
They had possibility of renewing contract with only spin-bowling coach Sunil Joshi, who joined in the United States of America (USA) Cricket Team as the spin bowling coach. So, the board has to appoint the entire backroom staffs in immediate effects.
