First Hajj flight starts from Ctg

The first Hajj flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines took off from Chattogram’s Hazrat Shah Amanat International Airport on Sunday carrying 410 hajj pilgrims to Jeddha in Saudi Arabia.
Acting manager of Hazrat Shah Amanat International Airport, Khairul Kabir inaugurated the Hajj flight at the airport, exchanged greetings with the hajj pilgrims and offered prayers with them.
He said the government has taken preparations to ensure smooth movement of Hajj flights this year. Necessary measures were also taken to stop any sort of harassment to the pilgrims.
He said Biman Bangladesh Airlines will operate 19 scheduled Hajj flights from Shah Amanat Airport.
Youth killed in N’ganj road crash
UNB, Narayanganj
A youth was killed as a bus hit a motorbike at Signboard on Dhaka-Narayanganj road here on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Noor Mohammad Russel, 20, son of Gias Uddin of Siddhirganj area.
Quoting locals, Fatullah Model Police Station's Officer-in-Charge Aslam Hossain said a bus of Bandhon Paribahan hit Russel's motorbike at 10 pm in the area, leaving him dead on the spot.
Angered by the accident, locals blocked Dhaka-Sylhet and Dhaka-Chattogram highways for half an hour.
Meanwhile, agitated people set the killer bus and another bus of Bandhon Paribahan on fire following the accident.
University student drowns
UNB, Sylhet
A university student drowned in the Dholai River at Bholaganj Zero Point in Companiganj upazila on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Hasanur Rahman Abir, a civil engineering student of Leading University.
Tajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Companiganj Police Station, said Abir along with seven others went to the Dholai River in Sadapathor area for taking bath around 1 pm. At one stage, he went missing and drowned there.
On information, a firefighting unit went to the spot and conducted a rescue operation.
Chinese nat’l held with gold bars
BSS, Dhaka
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) officials today seized 28 gold bars from a Chinese national at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here.
The gold bars, weighing 3,250 grams and worth around Taka 1.62 crore, were seized from the possession of Chinese national Xian Zhu in the green channel area of the airport.
CIID Director General Dr Md. Shahidul Islam told BSS that the gold bars were recovered from the luggage of the Chinese national.
A case was lodged with the Airport Police Station in this connection.
Couple jailed over smuggling
BSS, Dhaka
A Dhaka court on Sunday sent Bablu Khandaker, an official of Railway Police, and his wife Sheuli Begum to jail in a case lodged over yaba smuggling.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kanak Barua passed the order as police produced the couple before court after end of their two-day remand and pleaded to keep them behind bars for the sake of proper investigation.
Earlier, on July 4 the court placed the duo on two-day remand.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-4 arrested the couple on July 3 from capital’s Saidabad area and recovered 10 thousand pieces of contraband yaba tablets from inside the jackfruit they were carrying with them.
Later, they were handed over to Gendaria Police Station and a case was filed in this regard.
