JUTA demands 
punishment 
to rapists

Jahangirnagar University Teachers’ Association (JUTA) yesterday protested the murder of a seven years old student Sadia Afrin Sayma who was raped and murdered in Wari of Dhaka recently. Demanding the punishment of the perpetrators, JU Teachers’ Association formed a human chain on the central shahid minar premises around at 12 pm on the campus.

Speakers at the programme expressed deep concern over the incidents rape and murder of women across the country.

Addressing the function, President of JUTA and Dean of Mathematical and Physical Science faculty Professor Ajit Kumar Majumdar said, “We demand execution of those who were involved in such of cruel activities. Today we form human chain demanding their punishment. If we do not have a trial we will move again.”

Executive member of JUTA noted scientist Professor A A Mamun of Physics department said, “Those who do such activities do not have the right to live. We demanded their execution.”

Another JUTA executive member Professor Sayeed Ferdous “Rapist must be punished within a short period of time. Due to the delay in judgment process many criminals remain unpunished in our country.”

General Secretary of JUTA Professor Sohel Rana said, “Killing of Sayma is not an isolated incident. Due to the culture of injustice, this types of incident is happening in our country repeatedly. We want our children to stay safe and secure.”
