Students of seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University (DU) postponed their protest following assurances from DU vice-chancellor. The protesting students yesterday brought out a procession from Dhaka College and blockaded Nilkhet road to press home their five-point demand.
They said they want the DU authorities to publish results within 90 days, explain mass failures of students and review the examination papers. They also demanded separate administrative building for seven colleges, at least two days classes in a month by DU teachers, launching of separate academic calendar and crash programmes to cut session jam.
The protesting students met DU VC Prof Dr M Akhtaruzzman around 12pm and submitted a memorandum containing the demands.
Assuring the students, the DU VC said,“We will take special steps for the seven colleges within 90 days. It will take six months for implementation. The building of an independent academic building for those colleges is in process.”
He also assured that those who fail to get promoted to the next class can apply to their respective colleges in that regard.
Abu Bakar, coordinator of the protest programme, said, “We will protest again if our demands are not met.”
The seven affiliated colleges are — Dhaka College, Eden Mahila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Mahila College, Mirpur Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College.
