Overcoming the much-talked-about issue over the venue availability, ‘Salesman’er Sangsar’—a play directed as well as acted by celebrated Indian director-actor-singer Anjan Dutt—is finally set to be staged today at Mahila Samiti instead of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA). Two consecutive shows of the play will be brought to the stage at 5:30pm and 8:30pm at the Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Mahila Samiti in the capital Baily Road. At the same time, ‘Natyanjan’, a biography based on Anjan Dutt’s theatre life published by Chhapakhanar Bhoot, will also be unveiled at the event.
Sajjad Hussain, the organiser of the programme, yesterday confirmed the news about shifting the venue to Mahila Samiti. He said that the play will be staged at 5:30pm and 8:30pm on Tuesday (today) at Mahila Samiti’s Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium. About the change of venue, he said an issue was raised and overcoming it, all types of preparation have been taken to stage the play on Tuesday.
Earlier, the play was scheduled to be staged at the National Theatre Hall of BSA. According to the plan, the organisers took preparation and also sold the tickets to the audience. But the BSA was in the dark about the whole arrangement. Badrul Anam Bhuyan, the director of the BSA theatre department, informed that there was no booking for Anjan Dutt’s play. He is not even least informed about the matter, he claimed.
Following the incident, which led the staging of the play to a serious confusion and complication, the organisers informed the decision of making the Baily Road’s Mahila Samiti as the fresh venue.
With the play ‘Salesman’er Sangsar’ today, Anjan Dutt will make his acting debut on a Dhaka stage.
Based on Arthur Miller’s ‘Death of a Salesman’, the cast of the play includes Anjan Dutt, Sudipa Basu, Suprobhat, Suhotra Mukhopadhyay, Anirban Chakrabarti and Barna Banerjee. However, Anjan Dutt himself will be seen playing the lead role of Willy Loman.
The play was premiered in Kolkata in January this year, and staged its second show in Kolkata’s Gyan Mancha in April.
