Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen yesterday said Myanmar has made a political commitment to China for the repatriation of Rohingyas to the Rakhine state. “China has come to know through discussion with Myanmar that Myanmar has made a political commitment to repatriate all Rohingya to the Rakhine state,” he added.  

The foreign minister came up with the statement in reply to a query at a press conference on ‘Dhaka Meeting of the Global Commitment on Adaptation’ at the foreign ministry.
“The repatriation would take place through discussion. China has a big influence on Myanmar. The top notch leaders of China including its president, prime minister, speaker and party leader have told Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina that they would assist us in this matter,” he added.
The recent visit of Sheikh Hasina to China was significant as many issues including addressing the Rohingya crisis came up during discussions with top leaders of China including Chinese President Xi Jinping, the minister said.
