Shakib to miss Canadian Global T20 league

Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is set to miss Canadian Global T20 also if the BCB grants his request to give him some time off from the cricket.

Shakib has recently requested to give him a break from the cricket despite the Bangladesh are scheduled to play a three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka later this month, for which the work is in progress.

According to chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu, Shakib is keen to take a break from the cricket to recharge himself and also he has the desire to perform Hajj.

“He has been in continuous cricket and looked tired, so he wants a break from the cricket,” said Nannu.

“As far I know, he (Shakib) is also keen to perform Hajj. However we haven’t decided anything on this as of now,” he added.

Shakib was drafted by the Brampton Wolves in the Canadian Global T20 and he was set to play alongside Shahid Afridi, Lendl Simmons, Wahab Riaz and Darren Sammy.

The Canadian Global T20 is set to be held from July 25-August 11.

The T20 tournament also coincides with Bangladesh three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, which is likely to be on July 25, 27 and 29. The BCB is yet to release the schedule for the series.

Before the World Cup, Shakib played IPL, even though he was not regular starter and then he played a tri-nation series in Ireland.

He was in phenomenal form in World Cup, scoring 606 runs and taking 11 wickets, to be the first cricketer in the history of the cricket’s biggest extravaganza with 500+ runs and 10+ wickets.

Even though Bangladesh is out of the World Cup, he is one of the contenders to win the man of the tournament award.
