No degrees before names of lower court judges: HC

The High Court (HC) yesterday came up with an order saying no lower court judges are allowed to use degrees like barrister or doctor before their names. A High Court division bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the judgement on suo moto. The court came up with the direction while hearing a plea filed against an order passed by Judge Md Akteruzzaman of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5, where the concerned judge were seen using the degree of Dr before his name.
Probe report in case over FR Tower fire Aug 4

A Dhaka court yesterday set August 4 to submit probe report in the case lodged over deadly inferno in FR Tower in capital’s Banani area on March 28 this year.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Devdas Chandra Adhikari set the date as investigation officer failed to submit the report yesterday.
A total of 26 people were killed and 73 others were injured in the fire that quickly engulfed the 22-storey building on Road-17 at Kamal Ataturk Avenue area in Banani. Banani Police Box in-charge sub-inspector Milton Dutta filed the case on March 30 with Banani Police Station. Police made Tasvir Ul Islam, one of the owners of FR Tower, SMHI Faruque, the land owner of the building, and Rupayan Group chairman Liyakat Ali Khan Mukul, accused in the case.
Report in case against Nur, Liton over assaulting teacher Aug 7

A Dhaka court yesterday set August 7 for submitting probe report in a case filed against five, including now Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) Vice-President (VP) Nurul Haq Nur, for allegedly assaulting Rokeya Hall provost Zeenat Huda.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Sorafuzzaman Ansari set the date as investigation officer failed to submit the report yesterday. According to the case documents, the accused on the morning of March 11 during the voting of Ducsu polls tried to spread rumor among the students. As the Hall provost tried to calm things down, they assaulted her and abused other students too. Dhaka University student Marjuka Raina on that day filed the case against five with Shahbagh Police Station.
Report in tax evasion case against Prince Moosa Aug 4

A Dhaka court yesterday set August 4 to submit probe report in a case filed against businessman Moosa Bin Shamsher for tax evasion and filing inaccurate statement regarding keeping money in Swiss Bank.
July 7, 2019, was fixed for submitting the report but the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Devdas Chandra Adhikary reset the date as the investigation agency Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) failed to submit it. Customs intelligence has found allegations of registering a Range Rover vehicle brought in the country under tax-free facility, in his name through submitting false documents and making transaction of illegal money, primarily true. Moosa has been blamed for registering the luxury vehicle in his name by submitting false bill of entry and evading Taka 2.17 crore in tax. He also did not submit any legal source of income for the money that he has declared kept in Swiss Bank.
