Bullet-riddled body of rape accused found

The bullet-riddled body of Abdur Nur, 25, was recovered yesterday  from a hill under the Korean Export Processing Zone (EPZ) under Kapraphuli upazila here.  He was accused of recently raping a girl who was returning from her workplace in the EPZ. On receiving information of a gunfight between two robber groups near the EPZ, a police team rushed to the spot and recovered Abdul Nur's body from a hill inside the economic zone.

Dulal Mahmud, officer-in-charge (OC) of Anwara police station, said: “We have recovered the bullet-hit body of Abdur Nur from a hill inside the EPZ. He might have been killed by a rival group. He was accused in three robbery cases lodged with Anwara police station in addition to the rape case.” Last Wednesday, Abdur Nur and his three accomplices had raped a girl and they left her in critical

condition at a secluded spot of Kalarmar Digi of Chowmuhuni. Later, locals took the girl to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH). She is currently undergoing treatment at CMCH’s one-stop crisis centre.

The girl worked at a shoe factory in the EPZ. She used to return home by the CNG-run auto-rickshaw every day.

But on that fateful day, the auto-rickshaw took her to a secluded spot where the driver and three passengers raped her.

On Thursday, the victim’s elder brother filed a case with Anwara police station accusing four people.

Police arrested the auto driver, Mohammad Mamun, and Md Helal Uddin, one of the passengers, on Friday. They were produced before the court on Saturday.

They gave confessional statement before the court of Chattogram metropolitan senior judicial magistrate Joyanti Rani.
