The Rangabali Hamidia Female Dakhil Madrasa has a record of producing good results but this institution in Rangabali upazila of Patuakhali district has not been granted MPO facilities.
Teachers working here are said to be giving good education to girls with a view to eradicating women’s illiteracy in rural areas but are not getting government salaries and allowances. As a result, the teachers and employees of this sole female madrasa are passing through financially difficult times.
The madrasa was established on two acres of land in 1993. The obvious aim was to give education to illiterate women of the backward villages of Rangabali upazila. The institution was named after the land donor, Hamida Begum.
In 2002, the Rangabali Hamidia Mahila Madrasa was recognized as a Dakhil Madrasa. In 2004, 12 students appeared for the Dakhil examination. In 2005, the number of examines went up to 22 and 17 of them achieved good results. In 2006, 20 out of 24 students were successful. In 2011, of the 27 examinees two students got GPA-5.
As its performance kept improving over time, the institution came to be recognised as the upazila’s best educational institution. In the final exam last year, 45 students took part. All of them passed the exam and one student secured GPA-5 and stood first in the Rangabali upazila. At present, the madrasa has 18 teachers and employees against 385 students. Although the institution is surging ahead in all spheres, it has not been granted an MPO status yet. This denial of facility is said to be acting as source of frustration among the teachers and employees.
Madrasa superintendent Maulana Saiful Islam said that the teachers are working for a long time without any pay. MPO had not been sanctioned yet, he added.
Rangbali upazila secondary education officer Moklesur Rahman said that the Rangbali Hamidia Female Dakhil Madrasa was one of the leading educational institutions of Rangabali upazila in terms of results. Yet, it is denied the salary of madrasa teachers.
