Five  ‘Ansar Al Islam militants’ arrested
UNB, Rajshahi

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested five suspected members of banned militant group Ansar Al Islam from the city's Katakhali area yesterday. RAB identified them as Anisur Rahman Saddam, 30, Afroza Begum, 55, Ruhul Amin, 31, Mamun-or-Rashid, 35, and Abu Talha, 21. All of them are residents of the upazila.Acting on a tip-off, a RAB team conducted separate drives in the area from 1:15am to 5am and arrested them, RAB-5 said. The team also recovered two foreign made pistols, two magazines, five bullets, 24 cocktails, and Jihadi books from them, he said.


Man detained with 1kg gold
UNB, Dhaka

Airport Armed Police (AAP) detained a passenger from Dubai along with eight gold bars weighing around 928 grams from the 2-strorey parking of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday. The arrested individual has been identified as Abdul Matin. Md Alamgir Hossain, additional superintendent of Police (Addl SP) of the AAP, said Abdul Matin was roaming around the 2-storey parking area of the airport on Friday evening. Finding his movements suspicious, members of the AAP challenged him at around 6pm.


Workshop held in Gazipur

Workshop on Strengthening Physical Infrastructure and Research Activities (SPIRA) project of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute was held yesterday at BRRI training complex in the city. Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Mohammed Nasiruzzaman was the chief guest while BRRI Director General Dr Md Shahjahan Kabir in the chair. Joint chief of the planning wing of the Ministry of Agriculture Md Rejaul Karim was the special guest. BRRI Director (Administration and Common Service) Dr Md Ansar Ali delivered the welcome address and BRRI Director (Research) Dr Tamal Lata Aditya gave the vote of thanks.
