JS body suggests safe environment to educational institutions

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Education Ministry recently recommended taking necessary measures to ensure risk-free and safe environment in the educational institutions. The recommendation came at the committee’s 3rd meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with its senior member Fazle Hossain Badsha in the chair, an official release said.
In the meeting, the parliamentary watchdog also recommended to strengthen the ‘Scouting Activities’ to boost the awareness among the students of every educational institution to avert road accidents. They recommended honest, qualified as well as dynamic persons in the selection of the managing committee or governing body president in the educational institution for the betterment of the students.
Committee members Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Deputy Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, M Abdul Kuddus, AKM Shajahan Kamal, MA Matin, Golam Kibria Tipu and other officials concerned were present.
ULAB hosts 8th SSEASR conference on rivers and religion

The eighth biennial conference of the South and Southeast Asian Association for the Study of Culture and Religion (SSEASR) was inaugurated on the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) campus at Dhanmondi in the capital on Thursday, says a press release.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, MP, was the chief guest. She said, “This conference will show us the future of Bangladesh and develop cultural ties with countries of South and Southeast Asia”.
Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das was present in the conference as guest of honour. She emphasised on the Indian government’s plans on promoting connectivity and economic development through cross-border communication which was a reality of last five thousand years. Along with others invited guests, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni inaugurated the 8th SSEASR Conference on Rivers and Religion with lighting traditional lamp.
ULAB Vice-Chancellor Prof HM Jahirul Haque presented the welcome speech. Member of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh Prof Sazzad Hossain; Prof Shahnaj Husne Jahan, Chair of the 8th SSEASR Conference and Director, Centre for Archaeological Studies, ULAB ; Prof Dr Amarjiva Lochan, President of the 8th SSEASR Conference and Prof Imran Rahman, special advisor to the ULAB Board of Trustees, presented their speech in the opening ceremony. The keynote speech was presented by BR Mani, the director general of National Museum and Vice-Chancellor of NMI, Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
In the opening day saw around 50 scholars presenting their papers in 10 parallel sessions taking place on different subthemes including Major river and their valleys, South and Southeast Asian Diaspora South and Southeast Asian Art, architecture and archaeology etc.
