Bangladesh men’s and women’s team will be busy to play international cricket in the coming November as Zimbabwe and South Africa are all set to visit here. Zimbabwe will play three ODIs and two Twenty20 Internationals, while South Africa women’s team play a series which was originally scheduled to be held in October. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) delayed the tour in mutual consent after the Cricket South Africa sought a detailed security plan following the postponement of Bangladesh men’s team’s home Test series against Australia.
The BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon later met the CSA president on the sideline of ICC meeting in Dubai after which the anxiety of South Africa over security was removed. According to the new schedule the South Africa women’s team will land in Bangladesh on November 3. They will play three ODIs and fiveT20 Internationals against Bangladesh women’s team.
The BCB meanwhile released the itinerary of Bangladesh-Zimbabwe series yesterday. According to the schedule, Zimbabwe will arrive in Bangladesh on November 2 and play a warm-up match on November 5 at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium n Fatullah .The three ODIs will be taken place on November 7, 9 and 11. All of the match will be day-night affair which will be held at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The ‘home of cricket’ will also host the two T20 on November 13 and 15. The Zimbabwe will depart the country on November 16.
Zimbabwe are scheduled to come in January in a full series consisting two Tests, three ODIs and two T20. Since there is a gap in Bangladesh’s international fixture following the postponement of Australia series, they invited Zimbabwe to play the limited overs cricket in November to which the Zimbabwe Cricket Board agreed, BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon told the reporters yesterday.
He at the same time ruled out any tri-nation series involving Zimbabwe and West Indies as rumours were rife. “West Indies are not coming, so the plan of tri-nation series won’t be materialised.” In last May, the West Indies Cricket Board showed their interest to play four Twenty20 internationals in Bangladesh in November but the BCB wanted to play three ODIs and two T20 or two ODIs and as many T20 matches to which the West Indies were not positive.
The BCB president saw slim chances of playing a tri-series in December due to their tight schedule, though several media reported that there is a possibility of a tri-series involving India, Pakistan and Bangladesh as the series between India and Pakistan is effectively called-off. “I don’t see any chance of a Tri Nation in December as we have a tight schedule,” said Papon.. “There is BPL, and there will be Zimbabwe series as well as the Asia Cup,” he said.
“Though we have to wait till November 26 to know whether we will host Asia Cup or not as there will be meeting of ACC in Singapore,” he added. At the same, when the senior side will be touring, the Zimbabwe Under-19 team will also visit in Bangladesh. They will land in Bangladesh on November 7 and will play four one-day matches against Bangladesh Under-19 side before leaving the country on November 17. All of their matches will be held in Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong. Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Women’s team started their practice for the series against South Africa in full swing from Tuesday. The team management called up five more players in the camp along with the 15 who played against Pakistan.
