India pledges to take ties to height envisioned by Bangabandhu

India has pledged to take relations with Bangladesh to the height envisioned by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. “I am pledged to take the partnership between the two countries to the level determined by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the eve of the independence of Bangladesh,” Indian external affairs minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has said.

Jaishankar said this in a letter to Bangladesh foreign minister AK Abdul Momen on June 4, according to a press release issued yesterday. “The relations between the neighbouring country Bangladesh and India have taken a profound form. And it has been possible because of the judicious and farsighted leaderships of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian prime

minister Narendra Modi,” he said.  “The Bangladesh Awami League recently formed the government with a huge mandate of the people. And the National Democratic Alliance has also formed the government with a massive mandate of the people. It is the expression of the massive support of the people of the two countries towards the firm partnership of the two countries,” he added.

Jaishankar also expressed optimism of paying a visit to Bangladesh soon.
