Peasants of Barishal organized a rally and brought out a procession  carrying sheaf of paddy (Dhaner Shish) in the city yesterday demanding fair price of paddy. The also handed over memorandum to the prime minister for same reason. Jatiya Krishak Samity (JKS), front organisation of Workers Party, Barishal branch organized the programme in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall.  Abdul Hakim, district president of the organization presided over the event.

Among others Prof Nauru Huq Nilu, district WP president, Bishwajit Baroi, district JKS secretary, Mozammel Huq Firoj, Monjur Morshed, Bimal Karati, peasant’s leaders, Anisur Rahman Sabuj, Chanpasha UP

chairman, Naren Baroi, Harta UP member, addressed the rally.

The speakers of the programme demanded fixation of fair price of paddy as Tk.1100 (coarse) -1300(fine) per mound for different varieties and purchasing the produced grains directly from the peasants by opening purchasing centers at union-level.

They also demanded for introducing crop insurance for food grains, perishable products, establishing cold storages, purchasing crops directly from the peasants without interference of any middle men.

They also placed 4-point demand including fair price and collection of produced crops from the peasants without any mediator.
