A widow was strangulated to death allegedly by unknown criminals after raping her at Gazipur village in Assasuni upazila of Satkhira on Monday night.
The deceased was Monowara Khatun, 30, of the same village.
Locals first saw the body lying on the ground near her house in the morning and informed the police.
Abdul Khalek, father of the victim, said his daughter stayed alone in the house after her husband’s death. She went to sleep at around 10pm. When Khalek woke up early in the morning, he found that Monowara was not in bed.
Family members alleged that the criminals strangulated her to death after rape and threw the body out of the house.
Azmol Huda, officer-in-charge of Assasuni police station, said a case was filed in this connection.
