KFC fined Tk 4 lakh for storing stale chicken

International fast food restaurant chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) was fined Tk four lakh by a mobile court of Bangladesh Safe Food Authority (BSFA) yesterday for storing stale chicken at its Bailey Road outlet in the capital.   A mobile court led by BFSA Executive Magistrate Hosne Aara Popy imposed the fine after it found 18kg stale chicken at the KFC outlet.

Confirming the news, BFSA member Mahbub Kabir told The Independent that the court found 10 packets of date-expired chickens each weighing 1.8kg at the KFC outlet.   “Following this, the court fined the branch Tk 4 lakh,” Kabir said quoting the

magistrate. Kabir, who is also an additional secretary to the government, said the KFC authorities were warned over such a criminal act.

In another development, the BSFA yesterday carried out a drive at Shantinagar in the capital to verify if the 52 food items, labeled substandard by Bangladesh Standard Testing Institution, were on sale in the area. However, no such item was found on sale.
