A three- day-long scientists training on “Improvement strategies & production technologies of oilseed crops in relation to changing climate” was held at the seminar room of Oilseed Research Center of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) in Gazipur yesterday.
The Oilseed Research Centre organised the programme. 20 scientists of BARI participated in the event. Director General of BARI Dr Abul Kalam Azad inaugurated the training as the chief guest while chief scientific officer (Oilseed Research Centre) Dr Md Abdul Latif Akanda presided over the inaugural session. Former director (Oilseed Research Centre) Dr Md Lutfur Rahman was present as special guest.
In his speech, BARI Director General Dr Abul Kalam Azad said that the demand for oilseed crops in the country is increasing day by day. Ministry of Agriculture has given highest priority to the production of oilseed crops. On the other hand, we must keep in mind the fact of climate change. So our research should be 'need based'.
Our research on the development of oilseed crops will be subject to climate change, rapid growing population, present and future demand etc. I hope scientists will get a good idea about it from this training workshop.
