List of Rajakars on the cards

The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has taken the initiative to prepare a list of Rajakars, who backed the Pakistani occupying forces and were involved in war crimes during the war of liberation in 1971. The ministry has started sending letters to Ministry of Home Affairs and police stations and at district levels asking them to maintain lists of members of Rajakars, al-Shams and al-Badr. The Ministry is also working to bring amendment to Jatiya Muktijoddha Council Law.

Minister for Liberation War Affairs AKM Mozzamel Haque disclosed this at a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs at Parliament Bhaban yesterday.  The meeting, chaired by its chairman Shajahan Khan, was also informed that the ministry has formed a 5-member committee to prepare the list of anti-liberation elements and take necessary measures to bring necessary amendments to the law.

Earlier on April 28, the standing committee meeting had discussed the preparation of the list of anti-libration elements.

In the meeting, the minister for Liberation War Affairs said, since the Jatiya Muktijoddha Council Law only mentioned the list of freedom fighters there is no basis of preparing the lists of Rajakars, al-Badars and al-Shams. Hence, an amendment is necessary.

Jatiya Party lawmaker and committee member Kazi Firoz Rashid, however, said there is no necessity of bringing amendment to the law to prepare the list of anti-liberation elements.
