Man shot dead in Gaibandha

A man, wanted by police in three cases, was shot dead at Dari Jamalpur in Sadullapur upazila on early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Shafiqul Islam Buda Mia, 55, son of Kafil Uddin of the village.
Arshedul Haq, officer-in-charge of Sadullapur Police Station, said criminals shot him when he was entering his grocery shop for passing the night there around 2am. “He was killed on the spot,” Haq said. Buda was wanted in cases including that of robbery and stealing. Police said they suspected that he might have been killed by his former comrades.
25 hurt in AL factional clash

At least 25 people were injured as two factions of Awami League engaged in a clash over trifling matter at Sankochkhali village in Sadar upazila on Saturday.
Sirajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Magura Sadar Police Station, said there had been a longstanding feud between followers of two local AL leaders Taibur Rahman and Pannu Biswas over establishing supremacy in the area.
On Saturday morning, two factions engaged in a conflict with sharp weapons over a trifling matter that left 25 injured, OC added. On information, police rushed in the spot and brought the situation under control. At least 15 of the injured were admitted to Magura Hospital, he added.
82kg idol found in Chandpur

A touchstone idol of Lord Vishnu has been found in a pond in Kachua upazila.
Quoting locals, Mohammad Oliullah, officer-in-charge of Kachua Police Station, said Amir Hossain, Waliullah and Osman Fakir of Koroish village found the idol in the pond while catching fish on Friday.
However, they concealed the matter. Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a drive at the village around 1:30am on Saturday and recovered the 82-kg idol, 38 inches in length and 19 inches in width, the OC said. It will be handed over to the Department of Archaeology, he added.
Fake goods factory sealed off

Police in a drive here on Saturday sealed off a factory that had been producing fake brands of items like turmeric chutney, detergent powder, tang and mustard oil in the city’s Wireless area.
Jahed Patwary, additional superintendent of police (Chandpur sadar circle), said acting on a secret tip-off, Executive Magistrate Morshedul Islam with others led a drive and sealed off the ‘Turag Factory’ that had been operating for four to five years in the area. Executive Magistrate Morshedul Islam said, “Sealing off the factory, we have ordered to stop all kinds of production.”
The owner of Turag Factory, Md Tanvir Ahmed, 40, was fined Tk 2 lakh with one month imprisonment, he added.
The factory workers were ‘set free’ with an alert not to work in such a criminal enterprise. Executive Magistrate Uzzal Hossain, acting OC of Sadar model police station Md Nasim Uddin, and police inspector Jahangir Hossain were also in the team conducting the drive.
4 ‘fraudsters’ held in Magura

Police arrested four suspected members of a gang involved in fraud and abduction from the district town yesterday morning.
The arrestees were identified as Sajjad Hossain, 40, Shahinur Rahman Palash, 25, Joy, 20, and Tuhin Mollah, 26. Md Ibrahim, additional superintendent of Magura police, said the men were arrested for their involvement in abduction and fraud.“They used to abduct people and take ransom,” he said.
A case has been filed in this connection, the officer added.
