Schoolboy’s body found

The body of a schoolboy, who reportedly jumped into the Buriganga River after being rebuked by his father on Saturday night, was recovered from the river on Monday morning. The deceased was identified as Asif Khan, 15, a class X student of a local school and son of Habibur Rahman of Hasnabad area. Shah Jaman, officer-in-charge of Dakhshin Keraniganj Police Station, said Asif jumped into the river from Postogola bridge in a huff after his father refused to buy him a mobile phone and scolded him. Locals spotted the floating body around 9 am and informed police.
Man held with 11kg gold

Customs officials detained a man along with 96 gold bars, weighing around 11.25 kg, at Shah Amanat International Airport here on Sunday. The arrestee is identified as Shahjahan, 42, a passenger of Regent Airlines flight coming from Bangkok. Nur Uddin Milon, assistant director of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate, said being tipped off, they challenged the man while he was crossing a check post of the airport around 4:30pm. Later, they recovered 96 gold bars worth Tk 4 crore from his possession.
Singer ‘commits suicide’
UNB, Khulna
A singer allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in Kashimnagar area in the district town on Sunday. Police said Farhana Yasmin,36, a divorcee, had been living with one of her female friends in a rented house in the area. Her friend found Farhana hanging from the ceiling fan in her room and informed police. Police went to the spot and recovered the body around 2 pm after breaking open the door. The body was sent to Sadar Hospital for autopsy, said OC of Sadar Police Station Humayun Kabir. Farhana was a regular Rabindra Sangeet singer of Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television.
