After 131 days of inducting her Cabinet, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday curtailed the duties of two ministers—Md Tajul Islam and Mustafa Jabbar. From now on, Tajul Islam will only hold charge of the Local Government Division and Jabbar will be responsible for the Posts and Telecommunications Division. At the same time, the PM has given charge of the Rural Development and Co-operatives Division to state minister Shawpan Bhattacharjee and given another state minister, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, the charge of the Information and Communication Technology Division. Also yesterday, the Cabinet Division changed the
portfolio of Md Murad Hassan, earlier state minister for health and family welfare, to the state minister of the information ministry. The Cabinet division issued two gazette notifications in this regard yesterday. After a landslide victory in the December 30 general elections, the Awami League formed a 47-member Cabinet led by Sheikh Hasina on January 7. In the Cabinet, 25 ministers, 19 state ministers and three deputy ministers were given portfolios of different ministries and divisions.
