The bail prayer of Henry Swapan, eminent poet and journalist, was granted by the Barishal metropolitan magistrate’s court yesterday noon. He was released from jail later in the afternoon. Advocate Obaidullah Saju, president of the District Bar Association, moved the review appeal for bail prayer in favour of the arrested Henry Swapan, one of the three accused in Case No. 48 (GR/387;2019), along with other advocates, before metropolitan magistrate Shamim Ahmed.

During the hearing, Lawrence Lecavallier Gomes, Father of the Barishal Catholic Church and complainant in the case, was present in the court, but did not oppose the bail prayer, as negotiation efforts were on, said assistant sub-inspector Subrato Dey, the court’s general recording officer (GRO).

After that, the magistrate granted Henry bail till June 30, the next date of hearing in the case, he added.
