A Barishal court yesterday sentenced one accused to life term imprisonment for violating a teenage girl alluring her to marry. The sentenced accused Shamus Alam was absconding during announcing the verdict by Abu Shamim Azad, judge of the tribunal for preventing torture against women and children after examining six witnesses and other documents.
The court also fined Tk one lakh or to suffer one more year in prison and ordered to issue warrant to arrest the absconding convict, said Ajibor Rahman, bench clerk of the court.
The case story in brief was Shamsul, son of late Mannan Shikdar from Khontakhali village under Mehendiganj upazila, alluring the teenage victim of neighbouring Rajpur village to marry her and developed physical relationship since September 15, 2010. On November 18 of the same year local people caught them red handed. Then Shamsul promised to marry the girl.
Later he managed to flee from the scene and then became absconding. Later the victim lodged a case with Mehendiganj police station on November 23, 2010 accusing Shamsul.
