Three tonnes fish fry released in Pabna

Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif yesterday released 3000 kilograms of local species of fry into two water bodies of Pabna aimed at increasing fish production to meet up the growing demand, reports BSS. The minister today released 2200 fry into Chatrar Beel at Atghharia under Laxmipur Union at a cost of Taka 5 lakh while 800 fry into Dalgari Beel at Majahpara Union of Pabna district at a cost of Taka 2 lakh, said a press release.
The fish fries have been released under the finance of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock. Experts opined that it will be possible to collect fishes worth Taka 7 to 8 crore from the fries.
Earlier in the day, the minister has distributed registration and identity cards among 1,401 fishermen at a function on the premises of Upazila Nirhabi Officer (UNO) office of Atgharia.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working with utmost sincerity for the overall development of fishermen, saying, “The state owned water bodies have been leased out among the association of the true fishermen aimed at upgrading their livelihoods. And a true fisherman will be identified with the registration and identity card.”
UNO Alimun Rajib presided over the function. Among others, Pabna district fisheries officer Abdul Jalil, Atgharia Upazila Awami League President Shahidul Islam Ratan, Ishwardi Upazila Woman Vice Chairman Mehzabin Shirin Pia and Atgharia Upazila Woman Vice Chairman Amena Akter Nila, spoke on the occasion.
