Transport workers call
strike in Nilpahmari

An indefinite dawn-to-dusk transport strike, called by the district bus owners and workers Oyiko Parishad, was enforced here yesterday demanding a ban on movement of various three-wheelers, like the auto-rickshaws, Nosimons, Korimons and tempos, on the highway. Bus Malik-Shramik Okya Parishad (an association of transport owners and workers) announced the strike on Saturday night. The movement of all buses on the six routes has remained suspended due to the strike. No long distance buses and trucks were seen plying the routes after the strike started at 6:00 am.
The bus passengers have suffered inconveniences due to sudden transport strike. The president of Nilphamari bus owners and workers Oyiko Parishad Md Akhtar Hossain Badal said accidents   occur frequently on the highway and roads because of the movement of the three-wheelers.
He said: “We submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner of Nilphamari Md Jakir Hossain for stopping the operation of such vehicles on Nilphamari -Chilahati road, Domar – Dimla, Dimla-Jaldhaka, Jaldhaka-Kishoreganj, Kishoreganj -Nilphamari and Nilphamari - Saidpur roads on October1,” But no pragmatic action has yet been taken,
he said.
