The curtain of the Sheikh Kamal International Club Football tournament will be raised tomorrow with all the participants from home and abroad have already arrived in Chittagong, the host city yesterday. The eight-nation tournament will get underway with the Dhaka Abahani Limited taking on Karachi Electric FC at the MA Aziz Stadium at 4:30pm following the hosts Abahani Limited will face the Kolkata giants East Bengal at 7:30pm.
Among the eight teams, five teams are from abroad. Karachi Electric FC of Pakistan, East Bengal and Kolkata Mohammedan of India, Solid FC of Sri Lanka and De Spingher Bazan of Afghanistan are the five foreign teams. Dhaka Abahani Limited, Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited and Chittagong Abahani, three are the home teams.
The Port City is ready to hosts the tournament as all the preparations to welcome the participating teams have been completed. One of the top organisers informed that they have taken the tight security measures for all the teams and to stage the tournament safe and soundly. In the short notice tournament the home teams, including the hosts Chittagong Abahani Limited had not enough practice while both the Dhaka giants, Abahani Limited and Mohammedan Sporting Club are participating the tournament with only one week practice.
Abahani Limited, Mohammed Sporting Club and also the Chittagong Abahani comprised their teams with some guest players. Specially, the hosts Chittagong Abahani formed almost their full team including the players from Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra, the runners up team of the Bangladesh Premier League.
Abahani Limited will field two guest players while they confirmed the services of Wali Faisal and Topu Barman of Sheikh Russel, while Mohammedan also included youngster Najib Newaz Jibon of BJMC and Faisal Mahmud of Muktijoddha KC. Despite a short time preparation all the home teams are expecting high to win the inaugural trophy to be organised after the name of the Shaheed Sheikh Kamal, the pioneer sports organizer of the of the country.
