Police in an overnight drive arrested five alleged members of CNG-run auto-rickshaw snatching gang from Arefin Nagar under Bayazid police station of the city yesterday. The arrestees were Imtiaz Uddin Saimon, 20, Mohammad Selim, 18, Md Alauddin, 20, Mohammad Shahin, 22, and Md Yeasin Arafat, 24. Mohammad Mohsin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bakalia police station, on September 24, four members of the gang disguised as passengers hired an auto-rickshaw in front of Chittagong Medical College Hospital for Bakalia. When the auto-rickshaw reached near Kalpalak residential area, the gang members snatched the vehicle assaulting the driver. A case was lodged with Bakalia police station in this connection, said Mohammad Mohsin. Later, they sold the auto-rickshaw in Chokaria but fled the area as the locals suspected them robbers. Police seized the vehicle and arrested the five people in this connection, the OC added. “There are seven members in the gang and we are trying to arrest the other duo,” the OC said. Earlier, they were held for snatching CNG-run auto-rickshaw from different parts of the city.
