Veteran comedy actor Anis no more

Veteran actor and comedian Anisur Rahman Anis, popularly known as Anis on the big screen, is no more. He breathed his last at his own residence in the Abhaydas Lane of the capital’s Tikatuli area on Sunday night. He was 78.

DhakaLive has news that the actor had been suffering from old-age complications for a long time and he used to live alone at his residence.

His first namaz-e-janaza held around 9am at Tikatuli Jame Mosque in Hatkhola road area yesterday. Then, Anis’s body was brought to the BFDC (Bangladesh Film Development Corporation), where his second janaza held around 11am.

Later, his body was taken to his ancestral home at Ballabpur village in Chhagalnaiya Upazila of Feni. Following his third namaz-e-janaza, the family members, relatives, colleagues and well-wishers buried him in the family graveyard in the evening.

Beginning his acting career in 1964 with the film ‘Eito Jibon’ directed by Zillur Rahim, he acted in about 250 films in his long career. His notable films include ‘Poyse’, ‘Mala’, ‘Zarina Sundori’, ‘Jongli Meye’, ‘Modhumala’, ‘Bhanumati’, ‘Padma Nadir Majhi’, ‘Surjo Uthar Age’, ‘Odhikar’, ‘Ongar’, ‘Barud’, ‘Ghar Sangsar’, ‘Emiler Goyenda Bahini’, ‘Puroskar’, ‘Lal Kajol’, ‘Nirdosh’, ‘Sanai’, ‘Ujan Bhati’ and ‘Talak’, among others.

The actor is survived by his two daughters while his wife Kulsum Ara Begum died in 2013.
