Customs officials in separate drives arrested a man and recovered 5.9 kgs of gold from Dhaka and Chattogram airports on Sunday and Monday. In the capital, the customs officials recovered four gold bars, weighing four kilograms, from a toilet of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport early yesterday.
Othello Chowdhury, deputy commissioner (preventive team) of Dhaka Customs House, said that on secret information, a team of customs raided the toilet of no-8 boarding bridge of the airport around 1am and recovered the gold bars, worth Tk 2 crore, from a bin.
Our STAFF REPOETER from Chattogram adds: In Chattogram, the Customs Intelligence and Investigative Directorate (CIID) officials detained a man along with 1.96 kg gold from Shah Amanat International Airport in the city on
Sunday.
The detainee was identified as Rafique Ullah, 36, of Raozan upazila of the district. CIID official Abdul Razzaq said a flight landed at the airport from Dubai on 11 am. Tipped off, a team of customs intelligence challenged Rafique Ullah and recovered 1.9 kgs of gold worth Tk one crore after searching his body.
