Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has taken multi-tier security measures in different areas including Ramna Park, Suhrawardy Udyan, Dhaka University area and Dhanmondi ahead of the first day of Bangla New Year ‘Pahela Baishakh’. RAB will also set up mobile courts during the Baishakh ceremony on Sunday (April 14). RAB acting Chief Jahangir Alam made the announcement yesterday while speaking to the media.

This move is a first of its kind for RAB in a bid to bring to justice the perpetrators of any untoward incident. “Like all the other law enforcing agencies RAB has set up an impenetrable security system,” he said. He said that all the law enforcing agencies were working together to ensure safety. Responding to queries

about the security outside the capital he said that bomb disposal unit, dog squad and striking forces will be in place to ensure maximum safety.

Jahangir Alam said the big events of the Bangla New Year take place at Ramna Batamul, Rabindra Sarobar of Dhanmondi and at Bangabandhu International Conference Center.

He said, “Special arrangements have been made by RAB to prevent security measures and possible threats in these programmes. For that we have already collected information related those areas.”

He said, “Work have done by coordinating with different intelligence agencies. Which will continue until the Baishakh ceremony is over. RAB’s intelligence service has started in different parts of the country including the capital on the occasion of the anniversary.”
