Land near Sundarban Hotel subsides again
Five days into the collapse of National Bank’s under-construction site near Sundarban Hotel in Panthapath area of the capital, another portion of land subsided behind the site last night. About 150-foot strip of land behind the NBL construction site caved in around 7pm damaging several establishments and a boundary wall completely collapsed at that time. However, no one was injured during the occurrence. Following the incident, authorities concerned have again sealed off the road from Sonargaon fountain to Panthapath. Earlier, around noon, the road was opened to traffic. CR Dutta Road was still off limits to traffic and sand-filling work was underway to mend the road that sank along with the collapse of the NBL construction site on Wednesday. While filing of this report around 9pm, Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sayeed Khokon visited the spot. Portion of a boundary wall of Sundarban Hotel and nearly 120-feet stretch of an adjacent alley caved in after subsidence of soil at the NBL construction site on Wednesday.
