BCB looks to appoint Jaffer as batting coach

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) informally proposed to Wasim Jaffer to become batting coach for the age-group cricket teams in Bangladesh. The 41-year-old batsman, Wasim came here in Bangladesh to play the Dhaka Premier League for the 2018-2019 season for holders Abahani Limited. This is his first stint in DPL. He meanwhile played four matches for Abahani and scored 216.

It’s learnt from the BCB sources that BCB director and its Games Development Committee Chairman Khaled Mahmud Sujon has elated to see his batting style and thought to be appointed him for the national team coach.

BCB Games Development senior national manager AEM Kawser admitted the matter and said that the board will decide the matter after holding more talks with Wasim Jaffer.

“We talked to him and orally proposed him to be coach in Bangladesh. Wasim Jaffer also showed his interest. It’s just preliminary stage,” said AEM Kawser.

“The board will take the final decision after holding more discussion with Wasim Jaffer. Discussion is still at preliminary stage,” Kawser told The Independent over mobile phone.

It is learnt that BCB wants to give him the responsibility of the age-group cricket team first before going to the senior level. Then he might be given High Performance (HP) on his shoulder.

Finally he might be seen as a batting coach for the Tigers. Currently, South African former batsman Neil McKenzie is playing role as batting coach for Shakib, Tamim and Co.
