Bangabandhu Cup Golf from Apr 3

Bangladesh golf added to a new chapter when it will host the prestigious Asian Tour Professional Bangabandhu Cup Golf Cup Open as almost all leading golfers from different continents are taking part in the four day championship from April 3 at the picturesque Kurmitola Golf Club (KGC) course in the capital.

The Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed, BSP, BGBM, psc and president of Bangladesh Golf Federation unveiled the logo of the tournament at a lively ceremony at KGC.  Bollywood mega star Sanjay Dutta and  Rick Haque  Sikdar, Director of National Bank Limited jointly pressed a button with General Aziz Ahmed to unveil the logo with spontaneously clapping  from the audience. The Army Chief and National Bank Director presented mementos to Sanjay Dutta.

“You know this time the Asian Tour Golf will have an added glamour as it has been named after Bangladesh Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.”

“I would like to extend my gratitude to Bangabandhu Memorial Trust as well as our beloved Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who gave her consent to give the tournament’s name after Bangabandhu,” said the Army Chief who is also the president of Bangladesh Olympic Association.

Gen Aziz said it would be a great opportunity for pro-golfers of the country to excel their skill and performances with the participation of high profile golfers from Europe, Asia and USA. “I think the local golfers led by ace golfer Siddiqur Rahman would feel encourage to face a better result on the home grounmd.”

Sanjay Dutt recollected his memory of visiting Bangladesh with his late father Sunil Dutt in early 70s at the invitation of Bangabandhu Sheikh

Mujibur Rahman. “Yes enjoyed the trip and this time too I am delighted to come here. I can assured that I’m ready to tour Bangladesh whenever they invited me to attend any function.”

Rick Haque Sikder said his organistaion feels proud to be associated with this great tournament.  He profoundly recalled his father association with Bangabandhu. “I wish all the success of the tournament and hopes to continue the sponsorship in future.”

State minister for Water Resources Enamul Haque Shamim and National Bank director Son Haque Sikder along with  high civil and army officials were present on the occasion.

Later Bangladesh Golf Federation General Secretary  Brig Gen  Md Sayeed Siddik stated at a press conference that so far opver 150 golfers from 22 countries have confirmed their participation in the $3.50 lakh prize money tournament. As host country Bangladesh got the opportunity to field 40 pro and six amateur golfers. Chokchai Boonprasert, tournament director from Asian Tour replying to a question said that the Kurmitola Golf Club course is middle rated course in comparison to other Asian golf courses.

The trophy of the Tournament will be unveiled on March 31 at the same venue at 7.30am. Informational Minister Hasan Mahmud will distribute prizes as chief guest on April 6 at 3pm.
