The BNP has termed as inhuman the government's move to transfer ailing party chairperson Khaleda Zia to Keraniganj Central Jail. “The construction works of the Keraniganj prison are yet to be completed. Gas and water connections are yet to be fixed properly. So, the government's move to shift Khaleda to a under-construction building is inhuman,” said BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a press conference yesterday.
His comments came a day after the home minister, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, recently told reporters that Khaleda would be shifted soon from old central jail at Nazimuddin Road in the city to the Keraniganj jail. The BNP chair is now serving her 17 years' jail term at the old central jail in two graft cases.
Rizvi said the government was implementing its ‘inhuman agenda’ against the BNP chairperson. “Begum Zia has been kept in the prison without any reason to make all opposition parties subservient. The Awami League-led government has no patience, humanity, honesty and empathy for the opposition,” he alleged.
