Speakers stress for protecting migrants

At a national level consultation yesterday, speakers underscored protection and recognition of migrants because they are being deprived of their due rights, despite their huge contribution to the national economy. They further said no single government can ensure the safe, orderly and regular migration. Rather it needs collective effort. The views came at a national consultation for "Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration—Voice of the Civil Society", organised by the IOM and WARBE Development Foundation at BIISS auditorium in the capital.

Among others, director general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nazrul Islam, additional secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment, Ahmed Munirus Saleheen, deputy chief of the Mission of IOM, Bangladesh, Sharon Dimanche, member of parliamentarians caucus on migration and development, Mahjabeen Khaled, secretary general of the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies, Shameen Ahmed Chowdhury Noman, and team leader of PROKAS, British Council, Gerry Fox, spoke on the occasion.
