BU students stage demo demanding removal of VC

A section of students of Barishal University (BU) staged demonstrations on the campus yesterday demanding removal of its vice chancellor (VC). The students brought various allegations against the VC Professor Dr SM Imamul Haque.

Some of the students alleged that BU VC did not attend the programme organised to mark 49th Independence and National Day on Tuesday.  Rather, he (VC) arranged a tea party with other teachers on the campus. Protesting his refusal to attend the programme a section of students staged demonstration in front of VC office on Tuesday.

Then the VC made an unfair comment addressing protesters which was ‘Razakar’s Children’. Protesting his offensive comment the students boycotted all classes and examinations yesterday. They also demanded removal of the VC and an apology from the VC for his remark. BU Registrar Dr Hasinur Rahman said BU authority will try to solve the problems.

Meanwhile, BU VC Imamul Haque denied the allegations and termed it as part of a conspiracy against him. “There is no scope to invite students to the tea party”, he said.
