Eighth First Islami Security Bank Limited Rugby (men) Championship began yesterday with 18 teams including 17 district sports association and Bangladesh Army taking part in the national meet.
The competition taking place in two venues, at the Paltan Ground and the Physical College Ground Mohammedpur simultaneously. 18 participating teams splitting into four groups are participating in the championship. The two top teams of each group will move into the semifinals.
General Secretary of the Bangladesh Rugby Federation Union (BRFU) Mousum Ali stated this at a press conference yesterday in the capital.
“We have some good programmes round the year but due to scarcity of accommodation of players we can’t follow our routine, specially men’s tournaments are severely hampered only for lack of accommodation facilities,”
“This time also, we had to make delay to organise the national meet only for failing to get any accommodations for the players. If the National Sports Council (NSC) can manage a dormitory, the problem can be solved.”
Abdullah-Al Zahir Shapan, president of the BRFU was also present and stated about their problems of ground and accommodations.
