Coentro
I have an absolute fondness for spicy food. The dish I am about to talk about today is a grand treat to any spicy food lover. It’s quite a popular dish named Gambas Pil Pil. I have always wanted to try it and I recently did at the Coentro and it was a pleasantly overwhelming experience.
The dish is a curry featuring red and spicy meaty prawns. At first, the prawns are sautéed in olive oil, garlic and paprika, a process greatly responsible for its signature flavor. Then comes the heavy spicy cooking with lots of olive oil. The dish is mainly treated as a starter. It was served hot and sizzling with toasted Italian bread. The dish is really easy to cook and equally impressive. As far as I know it’s of Spanish origin.
The environment at the Coentro has a rustic and warmth vibe as the interior is themed on the specialty of the place, the Spanish and Mediterranean cuisine. The recycled bottles and jars, the wooden furniture and the exposed red brick walls will remind you of traditional Spanish and Latin American inns.
Glazed

Doughnuts are my all time favorite snack. Quality doughnuts are very rare in Dhaka. There are a few places known for their specialties. Most recently, following a friend’s recommendation, I visited the Glazed, a bakery located at Gulshan 2. Among other items I ordered there was the Double Chocolate doughnut, surely one of the best doughnuts I have had yet.
The doughnuts were served soft and warm. The texture was perfectly moist. The doughnut would melt a little in your mouth as the dough was perfectly made and baked with complete precision. The deep and yummy chocolate cream on top was the biggest highlight of the doughnut. Make sure a get a coffee with the doughnuts, those two go great together.
The interior of Glazed reflects its specialties. The coffee and doughnut color themed interior with a splash of strawberry pink color everywhere creates warm shades and a cozy environment. It’s a great place to have snacks and a casual hang out.
