Saving children by ensuring formalin-free foods demanded
RANGPUR: Leaders of 'Durniti Birodhi Andolan' here yesterday demanded assurance of formalin-free foods for saving the future generations from the wrath of deadly diseases, reports BSS. They demanded stopping sale of fruits, vegetables and other foods mixed with formalin, carbide and other chemicals while handing over a memorandum to mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) and Sarfuddin Ahmed at his office. Led by convener of the organisation Shahadat Hossain, leaders of 'Durniti Birodhi Andolan' handed over the memorandum to the city mayor after forming a human chain and several streets rallies in the city. RCC councilors, secretary of RCC Fazlul Kabir, member-secretary of the organisation Shahinur Islam, its Joint Convener Kazi Issu, members Anwar Hossain, were present on the occasion, among others. On the occasion, leaders of the organisation expressed concern over flooding of formalin- and carbide-mixed fruits, vegetables and other foodstuffs in the local markets and demanded immediately stopping sale of all sorts of poisonous foods. They said hundreds of children and many pregnant women are even embracing deaths or suffering from various chronic diseases after taking formalin- mixed poisonous foods and narrated the grievous consequences of consuming chemical-mixed foods. Terming children as the future of the nation, they said hundreds of children have been suffering from cancer, skin diseases, stomach ailments and many other deadly diseases after taking formalin-mixed foods available in the local markets.
