Nine students expelled from JUST

The authority of Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) expelled nine students of Physics department. Of them, two were expelled for lifetime on charge of ragging and sexually harassing 12 students. The decision was disclosed in an office order signed by Ahsan Habib, register of JUST. Dr Md Nazmul Hasan, general secretary of the teachers association also confirmed the information to The Independent. The expelled students are Oli Ullah and Mahmudul Hasan of honours second year, Rajibul Haque Rajab and Abdul Kader of 4th year and Al Mujahid Afridee, Shahidul Islam, Rokonuzzaman Rokon, Anup Malakar and Shamim Biswas of second year. In addition, Abu Bakar Siddiqui of 4th year and Shatadal Paul and Imran Hossain of second year were warned by the authorities concerned.

Of the expelled, the first two were expelled for lifetimes while one for two years and the rest six for one year each. Teachers of the university came under attack allegedly by BCL men on the campus on January 12 over hanging of posters against ragging. Teachers’ association was observing agitations since then.
